Sant’Antonio Memorial

HISTORY

The Sant’Antonio Memorial was created by the Alagna Alpine Guides to preserve the memory of those who lost their lives in the mountains and to honour their legacy. It is a place of silence, remembrance and reflection, dedicated to families, friends and the entire community that shares a deep bond with these mountains.

The memorial also serves as a reminder of the respect, caution and awareness that the mountains demand from every mountaineer, hiker and mountain rescuer. By preserving the stories of those who never returned, the Alpine Guides honour the heritage of the region and transform personal loss into a shared collective memory.

To safeguard this profound bond between humankind, the rock and the glaciers is to ensure that we never forget the value of life and the price that a passion for the high mountains may sometimes require.

RESPECT

Respecting this place of remembrance and helping to keep it clean is a moral duty towards those who loved the mountains to the very end.

The silence, dignity and care shown to this memorial are expressions of gratitude to the Alpine Guides and to all those who dedicated their lives to the mountains, as well as a sign of respect for the majesty of nature.

Preserving its integrity means passing on to future generations a place of remembrance, reflection and awareness, ensuring that its message and memory endure over time.
